Rick Rule is the founder and owner of Global Resource Investments LP, and affiliated entities, which are involved in securities brokerage, investment management and corporate finance, focussed on natural resources and basic industries. Mr. Rule and his firm are successfully involved in agriculture, alternative energy, conventional energy, forestry, infrastructure,mining and water resources investing on a world wide basis. The firm provides investment management, advice, and transactional services to individuals, institutions, and corporations. Mr Rule is a well known conference speaker, noted for his contrarian, counter cyclical investment techniques. Throughout his career Mr. Rule has always shown a long-term interest in the junior mining sector. He started his securities career in 1974. By 1988 he was well known in the mining sector as a broker with an interest in natural resource investments. He started his own brokerage firm, Global Resources Investments Ltd., in 1994 to focus on the sector, raising hundreds of millions of dollars for exploration activity and exposing 4,000 worldwide clients to the junior mining sector.
His backing of the industry, even during the capital drought of 2000 to 2002, allowed companies to survive. But he didn't just back any story. He beat the long odds of investing in successful exploration projects many times. His track record has opened sources of mining finance that would not exist without him.
For example, in 1993 Mr. Rule decided to focus on silver assets in ground. He financed Silver Standard for $2 million. Through a few tough cycles he maintained his support. This year Silver Standard is opening the first new Argentinean mine in 50 years and its market capitalization has gone from $5 million to $1.3 billion. Mr. Rule's support is a big reason, says the company.
Today, he manages close to a billion dollars focused on the mining sector through investment partnerships, an investment management firm and his brokerage firm.
