Ron Peltier
Ron Peltier is chairman and chief executive officer of HomeServices of America, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate and the nation’s second-largest full-service residential real estate brokerage firm. Ron has helped build Home Services of America into a massive conglemeration of 22 companies and eventually this became Berkishire Hathaway’s vehicle to enter the real estate industry. Ron has a bird’s eye view probably better than any other single human being of the real estate market in the United States. In this interview Ron discusses the real estate collapse, price destruction, the current number of people in the US not paying their mortgages, government interference in the market, where he sees the real estate market today, where he sees real estate headed in the future and more.

Ron Peltier is chairman and chief executive officer of HomeServices of America, Inc., a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate and the nation’s second-largest full-service residential real estate brokerage firm. With his keen insight and experience in virtually all aspects of the residential real estate industry, Peltier has helped build HomeServices into a national presence, expanding the company to provide integrated real estate services including mortgage, title and homeowners insurance, among other home related services.
Peltier began his career in 1977 after joining Edina Realty. He held numerous executive positions within the company, eventually advancing to president and chief executive officer in 1992. In 1998, MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, a Berkshire Hathaway affiliate, purchased Edina and Iowa Realty. Peltier was then appointed chairman of HomeServices of America, Inc. in 2008.
A promoter of goodwill and innovation in the real estate community, Peltier was honored with RISMedia’s first annual Homeownership Person of the Year award in 2004, and ranked first on REALTOR® Magazine’s list of the real estate industry’s top 25 most influential people. A REAL Trends survey also named Peltier as one of the top five most admired individuals in the real estate industry. He is a founder and member of the Board of Directors for the Realty Alliance (a trade group consisting of the nation's leading brokers), a member of the Board of Directors for National Leading Real Estate Companies of the World, Forsythe Appraisals and a director for the National Association of Brokers. Peltier also serves as chairman for RESPRO (Real Estate Services Providers Council, Inc.).
A native of St. Paul, Peltier is an active member of the Rotary Club and other community activities. He attended the University of Minnesota on a NCAA hockey scholarship and holds a master’s in business from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis. In 2008, Peltier was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for his alma matter, Johnson Senior High School.
